FAQs + support

Does this extension record my audio or track my browsing activity?
    • No, the No Clouds extension does not record, store, or share your audio content, audio metadata, or browsing activity.
    • The No Clouds extension runs entirely on your device. No audio or website data is sent to our servers.
    • Google tracks very general No Clouds extension usage data in aggregate (i.e., the total number of times No Clouds was opened on a given day across all users). We cannot trace usage data to you personally.
What does the audio visualization look like?
    • When you open No Clouds from a website/tab that plays audio, a halo of pixels will expand and contract around each cloud in sync with the streaming audio. You can adjust the sensitivity and spread of the audio visualization from the settings panel.
    • The No Clouds extension can only connect to audio playing from a Chrome browser tab on a laptop or desktop computer. No Clouds cannot connect to audio playing from other apps or hardware. If you want to run No Clouds on a locally-saved MP3 or other audio file, you may be able to open the file in Chrome, and then open No Clouds from the tab that is playing the local file.
How do I adjust the audio visualization animation?
    • Make sure that No Clouds is connected to a Chrome browser tab that is currently playing audio. Ensure that the audio stream and the audio source website are not muted.
    • While audio is playing, open the settings panel in No Clouds and adjust the "Halo Spread" and "Halo Smoothness" sliders while evaluating changes in the pixel halo animation around each cloud.
    • To minimize disruption to gameplay, hit the pause button to pause cloud scrolling while you adjust audio visualization settings. Audio visualization animation will continue while cloud scrolling is paused.
    • The default audio visualization settings in No Clouds have been calibrated for spoken-word narration with minimal background noise, such as news radio, podcasts, audiobooks, and audio versions of online articles (including "listen to this article" features).
    • If you want to play No Clouds without audio visualization animation, you have a few options: you can open No Clouds from a tab that is not playing audio, you can pause or mute the audio source in the connected tab, or you can close the audio source tab from which you opened the current No Clouds window.
Can I change the style of the cloud characters?
    • Yes, you can switch between clouds with faces and clouds with a bumpy pixel design.
    • In the "Cloud Style" section of the settings panel, click on "Faces" or "Bumps" to instantly change the style of cloud sprites in your game. Both styles use the same halo-like audio visualization.
Can I make the clouds stop scrolling? Can I generate more clouds?
    • The pause/play button allows you to instantly stop or resume cloud scrolling and cloud generation.
    • If you see a "pause" icon (two parallel lines), the game is not currently paused — click this icon to pause the game and stop clouds from moving. Audio visualization animation will continue while the game is paused.
    • If you see a "play" icon (triangle), the game is currently paused — click this icon to make the clouds scroll downward and generate more clouds.
    • You can click clouds away while the game is paused, which can lead to a clear blue sky, hence "No Clouds!" Hit the "play" (triangle) icon to generate more clouds and resume cloud scrolling.
    • If the game is not paused, you can change the speed and amount of clouds via sliders in the settings panel. Move the "Cloud Speed" slider to the right to speed up the clouds. To gradually generate more clouds while clouds are scrolling, move the "Cloudiness" slider to the right.
Why is my score going up and down? Can I reset or hide the score?
    • Your score increases by 1 each time you click a cloud, and it decreases by 1 each time a cloud falls past the bottom of the game window.
    • In the settings panel, you can hit "Reset" to reset your score to 0, or click "Deactivate" to essentially pause your score and continue clicking or letting clouds scroll by without affecting your score. Click "Reactivate" to continue tracking your score where you left off.
    • When the settings panel is closed, you can click the mini scoreboard in the upper left corner of the game window to hide the scoreboard while continuing to track your score. You can then click "Show Score" at any time to reveal your current score.
    • No Clouds does not save your score or continue your score across sessions. When you close a No Clouds game window, the game ends and your score will reset.
Is No Clouds available for other platforms or browsers?
    • No Clouds is currently available as a Google Chrome browser extension from the Chrome Web Store. We are building versions for other browsers, and we plan to publish the source code soon.
